On July 11, 2021, thousands of Cubans began protesting against their Communist government by chanting slogans, such "we want freedom" and "we are no longer afraid." The Cuban President stated that the civilians' "unrest" stemmed from former President Donald Trump, who mentioned that sanctions were the reasons for medicine shortages in the country. This statement was especially important during the coronavirus pandemic, as medical shortages would result in more deaths in the country.
Donald Trump still somehow gets the blame for actions that occur within the country. Although he has been banned from social media months ago, people still blame him for supposed actions caused by his statements from months or even years ago. Not to mention, all Trump influenced Cubans is to express their right with peaceful protest. As for current President Biden, people have criticized him for not taking any real action toward helping Cubans. One Twitter post stated, "Thousands of Cuban Americans peacefully march to The White House and demand that President Biden act immediately on Cuba. Enough with symbolic gestures. The dictatorship must end NOW."
While most Cubans state that their protests are towards the Communist regime, President Biden claims that it is because of a shortage of vaccines in the country. Thus, he promises to deliver more vaccines to Cuba in hopes of stopping the protests.
